Description: This delightful hoppy brown ale walks the fine line between bitter and sweet. On the one hand, like its namesake, it is liberally hopped. Northern Brewer provides most of the bittering and lends a subtle flavor that is mild and rounded, despite the IBUs. The late addition boil hops are the tried and true American classic: the wonderfully versatile Cascade. These hops add a grapefruit note that helps to echo the American piney/citrus “tang” of the Centennial used for dry-hopping. On the other hand, the grain bill was created to both harmonize with the hop profile and stand up to its bitterness. The judicious use of crystal and chocolate malts creates a nice nutty flavor and aroma which multiplies the perception of sweetness without clashing with the hops. Dextrin and wheat malts help build the firm medium body and smooth out the mouthfeel. It is not a small beer, but don’t be scared. If you like hops and enjoy flirting with the dark side, you just found a friend.
