Description: This German Märzen, an Amber Lager typically brewed in the month of March, celebrates our community’s indelible spirit and resiliency, even in the wake of great tragedy. On August 21st, 1863 William C. Quantrill along with over 400 strong, descended upon Lawrence intent on killing as many men as possible and burning Lawrence to the ground. All in all, Quantrill’s Raiders killed more than 130 individuals (though some estimates are closer to 200), burned 75% of the town’s buildings and looted the majority of Lawrence’s homes and businesses. The Leavenworth Daily Conservative described the scene on Massachusetts Street as “...one mass of smoldering ruins and crumbling walls”. Lawrence’s city seal and logo features the Phoenix, a bird in Greek mythology that cyclically regenerates by arising from the ashes of its predecessor, a fitting image to the enduring fortitude of Lawrence, KS. Phoenix Rising has a medium body and a reddish, fiery hue. Pilsner and Munich malts provide a clean, slightly toasty, malty foundation to this lager, accented by Vanguard hops.
